Description
Gilmore Station at the Farmers Market by Nina Prommer - Gilmore Station is located on the northwest corner of Third and Fairfax in the heart of Los Angeles.
This area has a long, proud history. It was part of a large tract of land purchased in 1880 by Arthur Fremont Gilmore. Gilmore moved to Los Angeles from Illinois in 1870, seeking a better life on the promising West Coast. Little did he know that his dairy farm would evolve into pioneering businesses that would forever change the city's landscape.
At the turn of the century, while drilling for water for his herd of dairy cows, Gilmore struck oil. By 1905, the dairy was gone and the Gilmore Oil Company was born.
Now it is just outside the Farmers Market and very popular with tourists and locals alike.

What a cool vintage gas station, Nina. Those were the days when gas was probably .25 cents a gallon ... or less. Love the step back in time. L/fv/pin
